Kingsbury Grade will be closed for days

Print Comment
Kingsbury Grade will likely be closed for days after engineers discovered the area was ripe for a landslide, said Nevada Department of Transportation spokesman Scott Magruder.

The Nevada Department of Transportation closed the grade seven miles up the valley side from the intersection with Foothill Road in Genoa about 9:30 a.m. today.

Magruder said there is no re-opening date at this time. State engineers are getting an emergency contract to repair the highway.

Kingsbury Grade is the main route between Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe. An alternate route is to go to Carson City and use Highway 50 West or through Alpine County on Highway 88 and turn at Highway 89 to South Lake Tahoe.
