Lundquist sent back down

Carson High graduate Dave Lundquist again found out how fleeting a spot with a Major League Baseball team can be.

Lundquist didn't receive a chance to show what he could do at the Major League level when he was called up by the San Diego Padres on Monday. Lundquist was never activated and spent just one day with the club. By Tuesday night, he was back in the clubhouse with the Padres' Triple A affiliate, the Portland Beavers.

Lundquist, who has come back from two shoulder surgeries, last pitched in the Major Leagues with the Chicago White Sox in 1999. With the Beavers this season, Lundquist is 4-6 with a 3.16 earned run average in 69 2/3 innings. He's allowed 59 hits while striking out 65.
