More valuable than your credit card is the little piece of plastic in your wallet that brings you the world.

One free blue-and-white card from the Carson City Library can take you to Casablanca or the Carson River, help you fix a car or search your genealogy.

September is Library Card Sign-up month in Carson City. A library card is an invaluable back-to-school supply, putting children and adults in touch with a wide range of information.

"It's a wonderful resource for any child starting out in school," said Andrea Moore, library community relations coordinator. "It gets them off on the right foot. It's one of those cards in your wallet you should always know where it is."

Free, the card can be used at any Nevada library. A form of identification and proof of residency are all that is needed to sign up for a library card.

About 35,000 people in the Eagle Valley area have the blue and silver or white cards, and about 360 people a month sign-up for library cards, said library Director Sally Edwards.

The Carson City Library offers public Internet access and has weekly programs designed to stimulate an interest in reading and learning.

The library is located at 900 N. Roop St. Call 887-2244 for information.
