Top local motorcycle racer dies

Chuck Outland of Carson City, a top motorcycle racer in the 1980s, has died. He was 38.

Chuck's father, Guy Outland, said it's believed that his son died of heart failure.

"It happened very suddenly," Chuck's father said. "Everybody's still in shock. You're never prepared for it."

Chuck's father said his son had been racing motorcycles since he was nine-years-old. Chuck became only the 11th racer in American Motorcycle Association history to become a professional racer after just one year as a amateur, his father said.

Among Chuck's highlights in 1985 when he swept the 750cc amateur classes in the Pro-Am event at Sears Point, which is considered to be the toughest road racing track in the country.

Funeral services for Chuck will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Walton's Carson Gardens.

Chuck's father said his son's wish was for his ashes to be spread at Sears Point. Chuck's father plans to spread his son's ashes at Sears Point on the weekend of Sept. 22.
