GIRLS
CARSON 64, PYRAMID LAKE 36
The Carson girls basketball team was able to pull away in the second half at Pyramid Lake on Thursday.
After leading 28-20 at halftime, the Senators (5-3) outscored Pyramid Lake 22-11 in the third quarter.
"We were a little flat to start with," Carson coach Paul Croghan said. "They've got a couple of good shooters. We kind of turned it up there in the third quarter."
Thanks to the defense of Erin Stieber and Tabitha Adams, Carson was able to contain Arena Tapia, who had scored 40 points earlier this season against Incline Village. The Senators, though, held Tapia to eight points.
Adams also led a balanced attack, scoring 16 points. Talia Joyce hit two three-pointers on her way to scoring 14, Stieber had 10 points and Katie Kotter and Brittany Puzey each added eight points.
Carson played without Ciarra Christian, who has a sprained ankle. Croghan said Christian would missed Tuesday's game against North Valleys.
