YERINGTON -- Local state representatives will travel to Yerington this week to update Lyon County officials on legislative issues.
Sen. Maurice Washington, Sen. Mike McGinness and Assemblyman Joe Dini will attend Thursday's county commission meeting.
With the 2001 legislative reapportionment, McGinness and Washington will represent portions of Lyon County for the first time. Sen. Mark Amodei also represents a portion of the county, but will be unable to attend the meeting.
Thursday's meeting will begin at 11 a.m., with the legislative presentation scheduled on the first part of the agenda.
Other agenda business includes:
-- A request from the Nevada Commission of Economic Development for the county commissioners to recommend a tax abatement for ARE Inc. ARE manufactures pickup truck bed covers. It is planning to lease a facility in Fernley and has applied to the Commission on Economic Development for the sales and use tax Abatement, sales and use tax deferral, business tax abatement and personal property tax abatement.
The Commission on Economic Development at its Dec. 12 meeting approved all the requests except for the personal property tax abatement. A decision on that request was postponed until the county commissioners have an opportunity to consider a recommendation.
The state makes the final decision on such requests, but local governmental entities are asked for their advice.
-- A request has been made to consider a public nuisance at 3160 Holly Avenue, Silver Springs. The board denied a similar request in August by a 3-2 vote, but Commissioner Bob Milz, one of the majority votes, asked the issue be placed on Thursday's agenda for re-evaluation.
