The Carson Senators Silver Pop Warner football team defeated the Sparks Seahawks 20-13 in its final regular season game to clinch a playoff berth Friday night at Governor's Field in Carson City.
The Senator defense got off to a slow start, finding it difficult to stop
the Seahawks running game.
The Seahawks drove the ball down field, scoring the first touchdown of the
game. The Seahawks failed to convert the extra point.
*The Senator offense responded by putting together a scoring drive of its
own. The drive culminated with a 12-yard touchdown run by Mike Gonzales. The Senators (5-1-1) converted the extra point, giving them a 7-6 lead.
The Seahawks fumbled the ball on the Senator 40-yard line. Gonzales
recovered the fumble and returned it for a Senator touchdown. The Senators
were unable to convert the extra point.
The Seahawks fought back, scoring a touchdown and converting the extra
point. The first half ended in a 13-13 tie.
Throughout the second half, both teams had several opportunities to break
the tie.
Finally, late in the fourth quarter on fourth down, Senator Quarterback Patrick Riggs completed a 19-yard pass to Mark Gwaltney for the go ahead
touchdown. The Senators successfully converted the extra point, giving them a 20-13 lead. The Senator playoff team consists of:
