Following up their regular season pennant, the Carson Valley Junior League baseball Padres went on to capture a co-title at the Truckee Tournament of Champions on June 22-24.
Carson Valley won two of three games during the Tournament of Champions, which brought together league representatives from the California communities of North Tahoe, Portola, Loyalton, Truckee and the Carson Valley.
The Padres won their opener, 9-5 against Loyalton behind the combined four-hit pitching of Ryan Stoffer, Chris Honer and Luke Rippee. Brandon Huff hit 4-for-4 with a double and triple while Rippee went 2-for-4 with a third-inning grand-slam.
The next day, the Padres scored nine runs in the fourth inning en route to a 15-5 victory against Truckee in a game that was called after five innings. Greg Mullen collected three hits and scored two runs to lead the Padres offensively. Huff and Jake Stratton combined to pitch nine-hit ball in a winning cause.
Truckee earned a rematch and came back to post a 13-10 victory in the tournament's final game. The Padres fell behind early, came back to tie the score in the bottom of the sixth inning, only to see Truckee win it with three runs in the top of the seventh. Rippee collected three hits while Chris Honer and Joe Hodge had two each for the Padres.
The Padres won their Carson Valley Junior League regular season championship with an 11-1-2 record.
