Convicted robber sentenced to 32 years in prison

RENO - An 18-year-old Reno man was sentenced to 32 years in prison for robbing a convenience store clerk and firing at an officer as he ran from the scene.

Brendan Correia must serve at least ten years before he is eligible for parole under the sentenced handed down Wednesday by Washoe District Judge Steven Kosach.

Correia was convicted of assault and robbery with a deadly weapon for the May 21 holdup of a 7-11 store on South Virginia Street.

Prosecutors said Correia returned to the store with a .22-caliber handgun and robbed a clerk who earlier refused to sell Correia alcohol because he was underage.

He fire the gun in the direction of a police officer who saw him fleeing on foot. The officer was not injured.
