Numerous Sierra Pacific Power customers in Carson City have called the local service office to report they have not received their July bills.

Sierra Pacific and Post Office officials have no explanation about what may have happened to bills issued at the beginning of July.

"It's a mystery," Sierra Pacific spokesman Karl Walquist said.

The main Reno Post Office, which sorts outgoing mail for the region, has no indications of lost mail this month, spokeswoman Desnie Czipka said.

"We don't have any indication of what Sierra Pacific may have sent us or not sent us," Czipka said. "As far as I know, there hasn't been any problem with Sierra Pacific bills in our building."

Walquist said numerous customers in Carson City and some in Gardnerville have called Sierra Pacific in recent days to report missing bills. He did not know the precise number of calls.

"We really don't have any answer for it," Walquist said.

He did say the machine that cuts, folds and inserts bills in envelopes was broken for two days at the end of June. That caused a one-day delay in the mailing of about 12,000 bills but Walquist doesn't think this delay could account for customers not receiving bills yet.

"The thought is it shouldn't be related," he said.

Late charges will be waived for customers who have not received bills.
