MIDGET DIVISION

DOUGLAS TIGERS 20, CARSON WOLFPACK 7

GARDNERVILLE - The Tigers clinched the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Sagebrush Empire Midget Division playoffs by defeating the Carson Wolfpack 20-7 Friday night at Stodick park.

Kyle Luken led the Tigers' offensive and defensive effort with hard-hitting defensive play, a 72-yard punt return and a touchdown reception.

Carson played the Tigers tough until late in the first quarter when Nick Lonnegren found Luken open for a 21-yard touchdown pass. Justin Newton caught Lonnegren's pass for the extra point.

Midway through the second quarter, Keenan Copp hit a wide open Eddie Shope for a 48-yard touchdown bomb.

Leading 13-0 at halftime. The Tiger defense played tenacious, hard-hitting football all night led by Ryan Guzman (two sacks), Morgan Ovard (one sack), Ryan Moore (one interception), Shane Stanfield, Clyde Keith, Spike (Hit Man) Agosta and Cory (Bad-to-the-Bone) Hartzell.

After the Tiger defense held the Wolfpack to 1 yard on its first possession of the second half, Kyle Luken picked up the bouncing punt and raced 72 yards to his second touchdown of the night. Eddie Shope hit Luken with a pass for the extra point and the Tigers led 20-0.

After gaining excellent field position, the Wolfpack would score their only touchdown at the start of the fourth quarter.

Then, after holding the Tiger offense in check, the Wolfpack drove to a first-and-goal at the Douglas 4. Great defensive efforts by Derek Shoaf, Guzman, Agosta and Hartzell kept the Wolfpack out of the end zone and the Tigers took over on the 4.

The Tigers then began a 10-play, 57-yard drive that would consume the rest of the fourth quarter and secure the victory.

Hard running by Luken, Keenan Copp and great blocks by Cameron Cook, Chris Platt and Eddie Brewer sustained the drive for the Tigers.

The Tigers next game is against South Tahoe at 8 p.m. Friday night at Stodick Park.
