FALLON - A lightning storm sent the Douglas and Fallon high school football teams back to the locker room toward the end of the first quarter of their season opening game on Thursday night.

After they returned, the Douglas Tigers showed some lightning of their own when they scored two quick touchdowns in the third quarter en route a 15-0 victory.

Monte McCann scored on a 36-yard run with 6:37 left in the third period, then after stopping Fallon on three straight downs to force a punt, quarterback Jared Kenison broke loose on a 56-yard scamper to set up Kolt Clore's 14-yard touchdown run with 4:16 showing on the clock.

As it turned out, that was more than adequate support for a Douglas defense that held Fallon without a first down until the final 18 seconds of the third period. Fallon finished the game with 98 yards in total offense - 73 of which came on back-to-back plays to the 5. Douglas stopped the threat moments later when Clore recovered a fumble.

Earlier, the game was delayed for 30 minutes while lightning flashed around the field.

When play resumed, the Tigers took a 2-0 lead on Trevor Johnson's quarterback sack in the end zone with 3:15 to go in the second quarter.

Kenison rushed for 92 yards on nine carries and Clore added 90 yards on 17 carries to lead the Douglas offense. McCann also ran for 70 yards on nine carries.

Jordan Ovard's 25-yard punt return set up the first Douglas touchdown, which came on a four-play, 46-yard drive.

Notes ... Douglas won the J.V. game 46-22 and was also a 33-14 victor in the freshman contest ... Douglas played the first football game in school history on Oct. 6, 1923 and dropped a 102-0 verdict at Fallon.
