Northern Nevada residents are asked to roll up their sleeves to help 18-year-old Kaylene Holcomb of Fallon is suffering from A.L.L. Leukemia.

United Blood Services will be holding a blood drive in her honor. Blood donations can be given at either of the UBS locations in Carson City at 258 East Winnie Lane or in Reno, 1125 Terminal Way. UBS is the blood provider for all of Northern Nevada and the Eastern Sierra.

Kaylene, whose blood type is O, is currently undergoing treatments at Washoe Medical Center in Reno and will be needing several units of blood and blood products in the coming weeks. People with O type blood make up the largest number of the population at 42 percent. Unfortunately, donations for that blood type have declined over the summer. According to UBS, it is not just O type blood that is in demand, all types are needed. Several accidents and surgeries have caused an extreme shortage in the whole blood supply.

Anyone of 17 years or older and weighing at least 110 pounds is asked to make a difference in the community.

People who are interested in giving monetary donations can contact any Bank of America. The account number is 004963000800.
