Fishing report for week of Nov. 1

Inyo and Mono Counties are closed


Special Note: All applicable waters in Inyo and Mono Counties of California are now closed until the last Saturday in April.


Special Note: All applicable streams, creeks and rivers in the State of California will close on Nov. 15.


LAKE ALMANOR: No report.


LAKE ALPINE: No report.


BLUE LAKES (UPPER AND LOWER): Dave Kirby of the Woodfords General Store said he had no fishing reports for the weekend but a cabin owner said that there was 1.5 feet of snow at the lakes.


BOCA RESERVOIR: No report.


BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR: Closed.


CAPLES LAKE: Four anglers reported limiting out on both Saturday and Sunday. They caught mostly rainbows, some German browns and four Mackinaw trout. They fished from shore by either jigging with Maribou jigs or casting Kastmaster or small Rapala lures. Their best fishing was up to 8:30 a.m. each morning.


CARSON RIVERS (EAST AND WEST) IN CALIF.: Will close on Nov. 15.


Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station reported:


East Carson: Was very low and clear. The fly fishermen were doing the best. They were using dry flies in the early mornings or after the sun went down. Bait fishermen were struggling to catch any fish.


West Carson: Was very low and clear. The fly fishermen were doing the best in the mornings or after the sun went down. They were using dry flies. Bait fishermen were struggling to catch any fish.


CRATER LAKE (Near Kit Carson Pass): No report.


CONVICT LAKE AND CONVICT CREEK: Closed.


David DeSurra of the Convict Lake Resort reported that the 2000 fishing season was the best in memory.


Convict Lake: The largest trout for the last week of the 2000 season were a 9.30 pound Alpers rainbow taken with rainbow Power Bait from the north shore, a 8.07 pound Alpers caught with a gold Kastmaster lure from the south shore, a 6.16 pound Alpers on a Power Worm from the jetty and a 5.21 pound Alpers on orange Power Bait from the jetty.


Convict Creek: The largest trout for the last week of the season were a 3.35 pound Alpers with a nightcrawler and a 1.51 pound rainbow on a nightcrawler.


CROWLEY LAKE: Closed.


DAVIS LAKE: No report.


EAGLE LAKE: Dave Meserve of the Eagle Lake Marina said that despite the rain and cold weather, shore fishing is getting better and better. Most popular methods have been jigs or nightcrawlers under bobbers. Fish from shore have been averaging 2.5-4 pounds with 5 pounders fairly common. A report of a 7-pound, 11-ounce rainbow taken from the jetty on Sunday.


FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR: The weather has been unsettled and only the hardy have been out. Reports of some nice rainbows caught on worms or Power Bait.


FROG LAKE: No report.


HEENAN LAKE: Closed.


HOBART RESERVOIR: Closed.


HOOVER WILDERNESS AREA: Closed.


INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR: Is picking up with good fall fishing for bait fishermen using inflated worms or Power Bait. Three anglers on Sunday limited out on average sized rainbows, up to 1.5 pounds.


Summit Lake, above Indian Creek Reservoir, is still reported to be good for fly fishermen. On angler caught and released 15 trout in the late afternoon on various types of flies.


JUNE LAKE LOOP (GRANT-GULL-JUNE-SILVER LAKES-RUSH CREEK): Closed.


KIRMAN (CARMEN) LAKE: Closed.


KENNEY RESERVOIR: No report.


LAHONTAN RESERVOIR: No report.


LUNDY LAKE: Closed.


MAMMOTH LAKES AREA: Closed. Over a foot of snow on the ground at the Town of Mammoth Lakes as of Monday morning.


MARKLEEVILLE CREEK: Will close on Nov. 15. No report.


NORTH POND: Closed.


POORE-SECRET-ROOSEVELT-LANE LAKES: Closed.


PYRAMID LAKE: Beverly Harry of the Pyramid Lake Fisheries Office reported, "The water temperature was 58 degrees. The biggest fish of the weekend was an 8-pounder caught while trolling in the Sutcliffe area with an Apex lure.


Boaters were doing slightly better than shore fishermen. The boaters are trolling 20-60 feet deep. Saturday was windy and there were not too many boats.


Most of the fishing was by shore fishermen on the west shore from Warrior Point to Indian Head.


Fly fishermen were doing good at "The Nets" for cutthroat up to 8 pounds."


RED LAKE: No report.


SACRAMENTO RIVER: According to Kirk Portocarrero of Redding. Calif.,


Anderson: Anglers putting in full days. They are picking up a few, bright fish. River is at 5,400 C.F.S. Salmon are ranging in size from 15 to 20 pounds. Boaters are using Flatfish lures wrapped with sardines and bouncing roe.


Redding to Anderson: Fishing for rainbow trout is productive most days. Early mornings is the best. Anglers are catching 10-20 fish per day. Spin and fly gear being used. Glo-Bugs, Wee Warts and Flatfish lures are producing fish.


SILVER LAKE: No report.


SHASTA LAKE: No report.


SOUTH-NORTH-INTAKE 2-SABRINA-BISHOP CREEK (WEST OF BISHOP): Closed.


STAMPEDE RESERVOIR: No report.


LAKE TAHOE - North Shore: Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters reported, "We're catching mostly Mackinaw trout with an occasional rainbow. We are tagging and releasing the smaller ones. We've been trolling 250-550 feet deep in the area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach. We are using Herring Dodger flasher blades with either live minnows or pearl Apex lures."


LAKE TAHOE - SOUTH SHORE: Mike Nielsen of the Sportsmen's Sporting Goods Store at South Lake Tahoe said, "Fishing has been good for rainbows, up to 3 pounds, and German browns, up to 4 pounds. The weather has made it tough due to lots of wind. The best fishing has been between Cave Rock and Glenbrook on the Nevada side. We are trolling at a depth of 30-40 feet. We are laying off the Mackinaw trout because they are spawning.


TOPAZ LAKE: Closed.


LOWER TWIN LAKE: Closed.


UPPER TWIN LAKE: Closed.


VIRGINIA LAKES AND VIRGINIA CREEK: Closed.


WALKER LAKE: Bob Tompkins of the Walker Lake Guide Services said, "Fishing is still slow. Fishermen are only averaging 2-3 trout per day. Most fish are in the 3-4 pound class, one was almost 8 pounds. Best action has been while trolling 15-45 feet deep from Sand Point to Old Ski Beach. Trollers are using watermelon, chrome, rainbow or pearl Apex lures. Also using frog, rainbow, silver or Fire Tiger Flatfish or Kwikfish lures. Shore fishermen doing fair with Power Bait at Barlow Beach and at Old Ski Beach."


WALKER RIVERS (EAST-WEST-LITTLE):


East Walker River (Nev.): Bob Tompkins of the Walker Lake Guide Services reported, "The "Elbow" area remains good for rainbows and an occasional German brown on Panther-Martin or Roostertail lures or with Power Eggs or nightcrawlers."


East Walker River (Calif.): Closed.


West Walker River (Nev.): No report.


West Walker River (Calif.): Closed.


Little Walker River (Calif.): Closed.


WEBER RESERVOIR: Bob Tompkins of the Walker Lake Guide Services reported, "Access to the reservoir is open. Check on current fishing conditions and restrictions at the Schurz Smoke Shop on U.S. 95."


WILDHORSE RESERVOIR: Dennis Dunn of the Wildhorse Resort said, "It snowed all day yesterday. We've got about two inches on the ground with about 12 inches in the hills right above us. Fishing is still good for rainbows and an occasional German brown. The best action has been on worms with a piece of corn, worms with Power Bait or with either red or orange Roostertail lures. One angler caught a Tiger Trout (a hybrid cross breed between a male German brown trout and a female Eastern brook trout) that weighed 3.6 pounds and measured 22 inches."


WINNEMUCCA LAKE: No report.


YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK: Closed.
