Greg Smith, former Carson City Ward 1 supervisor, is recuperating today from triple bypass heart surgery at Washoe Medical Center in Reno.
Smith, 42, had the surgery Monday.
His mother, Norma Smith, of Pleasanton, Calif., said Smith was "doing fine" Monday evening.
"He has color and he seems to be doing really well right now," she said. "The surgery did take a long time today. I've been through this before with his father, so I'm just glad it's over."
Norma Smith said her son could be out of the hospital in three to four days.
"It's a surgery that can go one way or the other," she said. "We just don't know the first 24 hours."
Smith lost his bid for supervisor reelection in 1998 to Robin Williamson. He and his wife, Ann, live in Carson City and have two children.
