More than a dozen lawyers are vying for the open Clark County District Judge's seat.
The untimely death of Judge Gary L. Redmon created the vacancy.
The list of 14 applicants will be reviewed by the Commission on Judicial Selection, which consists of three non-lawyers appointed by the governor and three lawyers appointed by the state bar and the Supreme Court Chief Justice. In addition, two temporary members are appointed to assist with district court vacancies. Both temporary members must be residents of the county where the vacant seat is located.
Of the 14, four are deputies in the Clark County District Attorney's office and two serve with the county's public defender's office. The rest are Las Vegas area lawyers with the exception of Family Court Judge Robert Gaston who is seeking to move to the district court.
Each submitted a comprehensive application for the judgeship. Interviews with them are scheduled for Nov. 13-14 in Las Vegas.
The Judicial Selection Commission has invited public comment on any and all of the candidates. Comment should be submitted in writing to Commission Secretary Karen Kavanau at the Administrative Office of the Courts in Carson City on or before Nov. 3.
