An AT&T crew boring through the ground to install wiring, hit a gas line in Carson City on Wednesday, closing the road and forcing residents out of their home for a short time.

The broken pipe - in the intersection of Parkland Avenue and Coronet Way in Southeast Carson - was quickly revealed and mended at approximately 4:15 p.m. by Southwest Gas and AT&T workers. A one-block stretch of Parkland Avenue was closed by fire crews during the repair.

Neighbor Joe Belford, who lives on the southwest corner of the intersection, had to wait down the block while the damage was being examined.

"It scared a lot of people," he said. "They were very leery. The guy told me there was a lot of gas."
