It was enjoyable to read the letter by Guy Johannes praising the "new sounds in the city" - the fabulous music of the '40s, '50s and '60s and the four musicians who play at the monthly dance at the Children's Museum. Actually, this is not so new as they have been doing this for awhile, plus dance lessons every Friday night in swing from Earl and Katya at the museum, which has an excellent wooden dance floor.
There are other options in Carson City for this type of music and dancing. A favorite is on the second Sunday of each month all this year at the Ormsby House ballroom from 3-6 in the afternoon. This is a 17-piece big band, the Tahoe Dance Band. The leader is Brian Farnon, who directed music at Harrah's Tahoe for many years. The musicians are from South Lake Tahoe, Minden/Gardnerville, Carson City, Reno and Incline Village. All are excellent, experienced musicians.
It is nice to see young people enjoy dancing to this great music at the Ormsby House alongside the generation which grew up with it and still loves it. Come and enjoy it for listening and dancing pleasure today from 3-6 at only $5 a person. You'll probably want to return each month. I should know as I am a "Band-Aid" for the Tahoe Dance Band.
