YERINGTON - Lyon County Library System Director Christiane Freer-Parsons will find out Nov. 7 if she still has a job.

The county's library board placed her on administative leave with pay Oct. 9 with the county and personnel managers now investigating the undisclosed problem. They will present their finding Nov. 7 to the library board.

"We seem to be having some library administrative problems," said trustee Don Dallas, who joined the library board three months ago. "I think the board was feeling a sense of frustration that administrative matters were being let go."

Lyon County Manager Steve Snyder said the evaluation involves the same factors as routine employee evaluations.

"This is not to be construed as disciplinary or negative," Snyder said.

Kiki Freer-Parsons became library director in September 1995 and even back then some locals wondered whether her offbeat character would survive in rural Nevada. Her eclectic wardrobe and persona seem more in tune with Berkeley than Yerington but she just celebrated her fifth anniversary with the library system.

"I've been advised not to comment on the matter," said Freer-Parsons. "I love working for the library and I feel over the last five years I've done a lot to elevate the standards of the library system."
