SUNNYVALE, Calif., - A man barricaded inside his home kept police officers at bay for 13 hours with a rifle and threats of suicide, and even fired a round from his house, but did not injure anyone.
Police Captain Chuck Eaneff of the Sunnyvale Police Department said Dale Lloyd, 50, called authorities around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday to say he was preparing to kill himself or others.
Officers said they saw Lloyd moving inside with a rifle. He fired one shot during the night, but it did not appear to be aimed at officers and police did not return fire. The bullet struck a parked car and no one was hit.
Police evacuated 12 houses surrounding the Lloyds' home.
He finally gave up at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday and was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on a charge of negligently firing a weapon.
