Carl Strandberg, 79, a Great Cranberry Island, Maine, resident for the past 16 years, died Nov. 7, 2000, at his home. He was born July 24, 1921, in Kola Sweden, to Thorsten and Ellen Strandberg.
Mr. Strandberg served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served on battleships and later as pilot in command of naval aircraft. He retired as a chief petty officer in 1960 and later formed and operated a helicopter crop dusting and air charter service in Nevada.
After moving to Cranberry Isles, he served as a selectman for the town. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and annual reunions with his Navy colleagues in the Silver Eagles Association.
Among his survivors are his wife Louise; sister Bernice Creed of Massachusetts; sons James Strandberg of Hawaii, Signe Masterson of Minnesota and Ted and Victor Strandberg of Nevada; stepchildren Nicholas Lobkowiez of Waldoboro, Maine, Lisa Mead of Manset, Maine, Thomas Lobkowiez of Atlantic Highlands, N.J., and Jill Lobkowiez of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
No service is planned.
