Longtime school teacher Caroline M. Bohm, 67, a 33-year resident of Carson City, died Dec. 5 at St. Mary's Hospital in Reno.
Born Jan. 24, 1933, in Boston, Mass., she came to Carson City in 1967 teaching first grade at Corbett School. She taught until 1988.
Mrs. Bohm served three terms as president of the Ormsby County Teachers' Association and was the Ormsby County delegate to the Nevada State Education Association.
She was named Teacher of the Year for Ormsby County and the State of Nevada and was recognized by her peers with the Light of Education award for excellence in education.
She was one of the founders of Small Counties Association of Teachers, which sought to organize local associations at a regional level to give teachers in small towns a greater voice in the state education system.
Many Carson City residents fondly remember her as their first teacher. She loved all her "children" and tried to make a difference in their lives.
She is survived by her husband John C.; daughters Jon Elizabeth Frey and husband David of Carson City; daughters Christina Abate of Carson City, Margaret Gamberton and husband Jeffrey of England; son James Abate of Oregon; and three grandchildren.
