A graveside service for Edward Joseph Mello, 69, a Fallon resident for the past two years, will be at 10 a.m. today at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley. The Fallon United Veterans Group will perform military services.
Mr. Mello died Nov. 24, 2000 at Churchill Community Hospital. He was born Aug. 16, 1931, in San Jose, Calif., to Edward J. and Rose Barca Mello.
Before moving to Fallon, he lived in Dayton for 20 years.
Mr. Mello was a retired barber. He served on the Storey County Planning Commission for nine years, part of that time as chairman, and was a long-time member of the Storey County Sheriff's Search and Rescue group.
He was a Korean War Army veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Among his survivors are his daughters Pam Mello of Fallon and Judith Micone of Lakeside, Mont.; son Richard Edward of Lovelock; sisters Thelma Mello of Pleasanton, Calif. and Sandra Just of St. Louis, Mo.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Smith Family Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
