Elliott Melnick, 80, a LaGrande, Ore., and former Carson City resident, died Aug. 1, 2000, at Grande Ronde Hospital. He was born Feb. 1, 1920, in San Diego, Calif., to Joseph and Helen Kowalow Melnick.
He was raised in Los Angeles and attended the University of California-Los Angeles, where he received a degree in accounting. He later completed master's level work at the University of Southern California and worked as a certified public accountant for the state of California.
He married Nadine Halbin in Mexico City in 1968. They lived in Los Angeles until they both retired from the State of California. They moved to Carson City in 1980 and he became city auditor for the state of Nevada.
Mr. Melnick was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching sports on television. He also enjoyed reading, eating at restaurants, playing quarter slot machines and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Elks Association for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nadine, in 1997 and son Terry.
Among his survivors are his sister Helen Mabry of Los Angeles; son Timothy Clark of Kirkland, Wash.; daughter Toni Sternfeld of LaGrande; daughter-in-law Shirley Clark of Los Angeles; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A private ceremony will be held in Carson City at a later date.
