Joseph Michael Romanelli, 80, died Oct. 5, 2000 of pneumonia, at the Veterans Hospital in Reno. He was born July 25, 1920.
Mr. Romanelli served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, was captured on Corregidor in May of 1942 and spent the remainder of the war as a prisoner in Japan.
Mr. Romanelli graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in American history.
He retired at age 53 spending the remainder of his life traveling the West and becoming an expert amateur carpenter.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Jean; daughters Elaine Romanelli, Susan Romanelli, Patricia McIntosh, and Paula Delgado; son-in-law Anthony and nine grandchildren.
No public services are scheduled. Walton's Chapel of the Valley of Carson City is in charge of arrangements.
