Obituary: Marvin Emmett Foster Sr.

A memorial service for Marvin Emmett Foster Sr., 83, a Waynesboro, Pa. resident, will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro with Rev. Richard A. Seaks officiating.

Mr. Foster died July 7, 2000 at Quincy United Methodist Home. He was born Jan. 11, 1917, in Van Buren, Ark., to Marvin E. and Rebecca Spradling Foster. Orphaned at age 8, he was raised by his uncle and aunt, George B. and Mary Spradling Foster. He spent his early life in Carson City and graduated from Carson City High School with the Class of 1935 of which he was student body president. He had returned to Carson City to celebrate his 50th high school reunion.

He married Jean M. McClellan Dec. 27, 1941, in Waynesboro.

Mr. Foster served in the U.S. Army from 1936-59. He was in Panama and the Pacific Theater during World War II, the Philippine Islands and in Korea and Germany during the Korean Conflict.

After his retirement, he worked as a surveyor and a draftsman. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Waynesboro.

He was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, Acacia Lodge 586 Free and Accepted Masons, AARP South Chapter 2977, BPOE Elks Lodge 731 and Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary, all of Waynesboro, the Retired Officers Association and the national AARP. He was a former member and past master of the Army and Navy Lodge 306, Free and Accepted Masons in Fort Monroe, Va. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Waynesboro for 20 years and was an avid bowler in area leagues.

He was preceded in death by a sister Anna Lois Edwards; two half sisters Margaret Kane and Rebecca Evers and a brother, James.

Among his survivors are his wife of 58 years; daughter Patricia F. Heefner of Waynesboro; son Marvin E. "Mike" of Fairfax, Va.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Frances Beaver of San Francisco and numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
