A funeral for Nieves C. Garaventa, 79, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Robert Bellamarine Catholic Church in Fernley.
Mrs. Garaventa died Nov. 11, 2000, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. She was born Dec. 8, 1920, in Winnemucca, to Gabriel and Rafina Marcuerquiaga.
She and her father operated a ranch in the Thacker Pass area for many years. They also purchased and ran the Kettle Inn boarding facility in Winnemucca. She and her husband, Louis, ranched in the Wadsworth and Fernley areas. She worked for the Wadsworth Cash Store and she was assistant postmaster and then postmaster for the Wadsworth Post Office for 30 years. She was also active as a 4-H leader.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Rosa Echave and Flora Dufurrena and her husband.
Among her survivors are her son Gary of Eureka; daughter Karen Garaventa Baggett of Carson City; a sister, Alice Gori of Reno; four granddaughters; three step-grandsons and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to a scholarship being established with the Nevada State High School Rodeo Association, P.O. Box 1054, Lovelock, NV 89419.
Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
