William "Bill" John Engel, 82, a Washoe Valley resident for the past five years, died Nov. 18, 2000 at the VA Medical Center in Reno. He was born Oct. 9, 1918, in Mescutta, Ill., to William and Theresa Sleiper Engel.
He married Effie Bartlett in August 1958 in Minden.
Before moving to Washoe Valley, he lived at Walker Lake.
Mr. Engel was a miner and equipment operator. He owned and operated Bill & Effie's Truck Stop, now known as Boomtown. He was the oldest member of the Georgetown Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a past councilman and patrolman for Scottsdale and Prescott, Ariz.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Among his survivors are his wife Effie and son Terry Bill, both of Washoe Valley; daughters Rhonda Blevins of Livermore, Calif. and Virginia Foster of Las Vegas; brothers Ed of Yerington and Elmer of Citrus Heights, Calif.; sister Eileen McCracken of Las Vegas; six grandsons and two granddaughters.
No service will be held.
Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.
