In the amount of time it takes to say "glockenspiel," you could walk from one Oktoberfest celebration to another in Carson City on Saturday.

The Carson City Library will host its second annual Oktoberfest fund-raiser at the Pony Express Pavilion on the same day that the Republican Women's Club will host its second annual Oktoberfest fund-raiser at the Carson City Community Center.

"We are supporting Republicans and they are supporting the library," said Pat Campbell, the historian for the Republican women. "There are two different promotions and two different functions."

Andrea Moore, the community relations coordinator for the library, is also optimistic the opposing Oktoberfests will not deter from the library's festivities.

"Ours is an open invitation to the public," she said. "It will only cost $2 a person."

Moore, who has traveled through Germany and attended various authentic Oktoberfests, said she wanted to bring the Bavarian ambiance to Carson City.

Both have planned a wide array of activities ranging from craft fairs to music and dancing.

Last year, the library raised about $5,000 which went toward purchasing new chairs for the auditorium.

"We hope to surpass that amount this year," Moore said. "The fund will again go toward refurbishing the auditorium."

The Republican women's Oktoberfest will feature this year's candidates.

"The candidates will be there to mingle with the crowd," Campbell said. "We invited all of the Republicans who are running for office in this year's election."
