You might have to wait an extra few months to shop at the long-awaited Costco.
Costco Wholesale Chairman Jeff Brotman said Thursday the company is considering opening its Carson City store in Spring 2001 instead of October.
"We haven't decided whether to postpone, but it is an option," Brotman said. "We're moving things along with the assumption that we are going to open (in October). In terms of planning and construction, we will be ready to go."
Brotman said the company is planning on opening so many stores this year, the openings have to be staggered.
"Basically, we have to sit down with all the warehouses we're going to be building and see how they fit into the schedule," he said.
Brotman said he expected to have a decision within a week.
Costco is purchasing just over 16 acres of city property for $3.6 million.
Plans call for the construction of a 148,385 square-foot warehouse with about 720 parking spaces and a six-pump gas station on Clear Creek Road just north of Fuji Park. The intersection of Clear Creek Road and Highway 395 will also be expanded and will include a stop light.
