Questions surface over who pays to repair Silver Springs street damage

SILVER SPRINGS - Lyon County commissioners last week postponed making a decision on who will be responsible for repairing a Silver Springs street.

Damaged by heavy truck use during construction of the Silver Springs Wastewater Treatment project, Spring Circle will cost between $44,300 and $88,400 to repair. Acknowledging there will be other streets needing repair, commissioners debated whether the costs should fall on general contractors A & K Construction, the engineering firm of AGRA Infrastructure Inc., or the Silver Springs General Improvement District.

Residents have also complained about the condition their driveways have been left in as the new system is installed.

Assistant District Attorney Steve Rye said personal driveways are AGRA's responsibility, but made no recommendation regarding local streets.

Assuring residents the street will be better than before the project started, Commissioner Bob Milz said, "We need to do this right. They have ripped up a lot of streets. This will set a precedent."

The board directed staff to research the issue and return with a recommendation.
