A second-half comeback wasn't enough for the Carson Middle School 8th grade girls basketball team on Sunday afternoon, as the Solons dropped a 33-32 verdict to Oxnard, Calif., in the championship game of the South Tahoe Tournament.
Carson won three of four games during the three-day tournament to improve their season reord to 26-6.
The Solons trailed in the final 11-6 after one quarter and 29-12 at halftime, but used their diamond and man-to-man presses to scrap back into contention.
Brittany Puzey, Kayla Dunn and Kelli Weyrick keyed the press as Carson cut its deficit to 29-20 at the end of the third period.
Puzey led the Solons offensively with 15 points, while Weyrick contributed seven and Dunn six.
The Solons travel to the Bay Area for a tournament in Brentwood, Calif., this coming Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
