Backpacker magazine has some things to think about before buying a fancy sleeping bag:
- Think about a yoke-style collar, which has a free-hanging flap that falls over your shoulders like a bib. For heavy sleepers this works well, but be forewarned: the yoke won't stay in place for tossers and turners.
- Synthetic linings may improve wicking and comfort in below-freezing conditions, but in milder weather, they collect more sweat and smells.
- Down crams more warmth for its weight and bulk, but synthetics handle damp climates better.
