A head-on collision on Highway 28 south of Sand Harbor State Park Wednesday marked the first injury accident of the winter season in the basin.

The accident on Highway 28 happened at 11:27, just minutes after two minor traffic accidents that occurred on Incline Village roadways.

An Australian woman suffered minor injuries to her head and face when the northbound Ford sedan her husband was driving lost control on the slush-covered highway and crossed into the southbound lane colliding with a Chevrolet pickup.

Joy Coyle of Maitland, New South Wales, Australia, was transported to Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe for treatment of her injuries, said Pat McGill, Nevada Highway Patrol public affairs officer.

Her husband, John Francis Coyle, was not injured in the incident, nor was the driver of the pickup, Joel Francis Daily, McGill said.

Both vehicles suffered heavy front end damage and had to be towed from the scene.

At 11:09 a.m., deputies responded to a single car accident at the intersection of Tahoe Boulevard and Country Club Drive. There, a vehicle skidded of the road and into a tree.

There was no damage reported to the car or the tree, according to Sheriff's reports.

Further down Country Club Drive at 11:15 a.m., two cars scraped sides when one vehicle skidded into the opposing lane.

No injuries were reported in that incident.
