The annual Great Reno Balloon Race takes place at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno Sept. 8-11. More than 130 of the top hot-air balloon pilots in the country will compete in the event.
The three-day event features a Hare & Hound race, Community Launch, Dawn Patrol and Glow Show. Daily activities start at 5 a.m.
The festivities also include arts and crafts booths, souvenirs, food stands and concessions. Admission is free, as is parking. More than 120,000 spectators attend the event every year.
Parking is limited but there is a Park and Ride program (call 348-RIDE for times and locations) available for race-watchers.
The Friday events feature local school children launching their own tissue paper balloon creations and takes place at 9:30 a.m.
Carson Country pilots who will compete in the race include Pat Kimmerling, Dick Clark and Allen Anderson, all of Gardnerville; Monica Gruendel and Terri Ratkoviak of Carson City; Chuck Reynolds of Fernley; and Katie Griggs of Incline Village.
