BERKELEY, Calif. - A 12-year-old developmentally disabled girl was grabbed, beaten and sexually assaulted by nine boys after school, police said.
The suspects, ages 11 to 16, allegedly grabbed the girl on school grounds Oct. 25. All but two of the suspects attend the middle school where the girl takes special education classes.
The boys first slapped and kicked her, police said Tuesday. They then took her to 11 different locations, including bushes and a shed, and allegedly took turns assaulting her.
''After a while she just kind of went with them,'' police Lt. Russell Lopes told the Contra Costa Times. ''She didn't know any better.''
Seven of the boys were arrested during a two-week investigation into the attack. Police are searching for two more suspects. Charges are expected to include rape, kidnapping, false imprisonment and sexual battery.
Police said the girl kept the secret for two days until her mother got her to talk.
The news comes one week after news that a developmentally disabled 13-year-old girl in Marietta, Ga., was lured into an apartment building and raped by more than 20 men and boys.
