HAZEN, Nev. - A dangerous stretch of highway between Fernley and Fallon has claimed two more lives.

A Reno couple was killed in a head-on crash Wednesday on U.S. Highway 50-A near Hazen, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

A Fallon couple in the other vehicle both were reported in stable condition Thursday at Washoe Medical Center.

The victims were identified as John Fincke, 66, and his wife, Judith, 65. The injured were Robert Davis, 61, and his wife, Gail, 59.

The crash occurred about 4 p.m. when the Ford Explorer Robert Davis was driving spun out of control and crossed into the path of Fincke's Ford Tempo, the patrol said.

The Finckes were pronounced dead at the scene. No one was wearing a seatbelt, the patrol said.

The section of highway has a reputation as one of the most dangerous in Nevada. State officials a year ago ordered that headlights be mandatory even during the daytime on a 10-mile stretch of the road between Fernley and Leetville Junction west of Fallon.
