Anyone who wants to deal more confidently with medical problems ranging from scraped knees to hypothermia should consider enrolling in Western Nevada Community College's Family First Aid course, NURS 299B, CALL 30861 (32475 Douglas). The course will be offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7-10 p.m. at WNCC Carson City and from 7-9:45 p.m. at WNCC Douglas. WNCC's fall classes begin Monday.
"This course is open to the public and will provide everyone with the opportunity to learn first aid skills," said instructor Barbie Winchester. Winchester said students will receive instruction in basic emergency care for such conditions as bleeding, shock, heat and cold-related conditions, burns and poisoning.
Winchester said a large part of dealing with medical emergencies is working calmly, and the course teaches techniques designed to build self-confidence when facing medical situations or emergencies.
Students must have current CPR certification. Register on the Internet at www.wncc.nevada.edu or by telephone at 887-3130. For information contact the Allied Health Department at WNCC at 445-3294.
