The Yerington boys basketball team was able to hold off a second half rally by Whittell in a 61-56 win on Tuesday.
Yerington led 37-22 at halftime and held on in large part due to its foul shooting. The Lions went 20-for-26 from the line while Whittell was just 14-of-30.
"We hit our free throws and they didn't and that's your ball game," Yerington coach Daron Wildermuth said.
Zach Roots and Wes Thomas each posted double doubles to pace the Lions. Roots had 20 points and 10 rebounds while Thomas had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Jaime Olivera added 11 points for Yerington.
