COMPTON, Calif. - There were no still no arrests Sunday in the brazen drive-by shooting death of a infant in a stroller, police said.
Two women were also wounded when the gunmen opened fire Saturday afternoon outside an apartment building in what was believed to be a gang-related attack.
Witnesses provided good descriptions of the attackers and city spokesman Frank Wheaton said detectives believed they knew their identities and were following solid leads. But no one was arrested by Sunday afternoon, police said.
Three men in a vehicle began firing a machine gun about 3:15 p.m. and bullets struck the infant in the head and her aunt in the leg, Wheaton said. The names of the victims were withheld.
A woman inside the apartment building also was hit by gunfire, police Sgt. John Swanson said. The wounded were taken to area hospitals and reported in fair condition.
