Attorneys are volunteering their time to provide free civil legal services to low-income residents in Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties in several following areas.

They include uncontested divorces, adoptions, bankruptcy, guardianship, name change, real estate matters, homesteads, wills, living wills, durable power of attorney, probate, estate planning, tax issues, worker's compensation/labor law and nonprofit business/corporate law.

Attorneys have also volunteered their services for "Self-Help Divorce" clinics, a program developed by Volunteer Attorneys for Rural Nevadans to assist in simple divorce cases when your spouse's whereabouts are unknown or when your spouse is uncooperative. The Self-Help Divorce program requires attendance at VARN's Self-Help Divorce Clinic where you are provided with a self-help packet which contains the legal documents needed to file for divorce.

VARN is a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide free civil legal assistance to persons of low income. There are more than 100 attorneys participating in VARN's program which is now on-line. To learn about the services available, visit their Web site at http:/www.van.org. To apply for assistance, call 883-0404 or (800) 323-8666.
