The public is welcome to a free program titled "That's a Train?!" at 7 p.m. March 8 at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City. The program will be illustrated by speaker Bill Kohler.
"Railroading is with the weird and the wonderful, consisting mostly of practical solutions to unusual problems," said Kohler, a retired power plant supervisor and volunteer at the museum. He has been a railfan since childhood and has amassed a slide collection of unusual railroad objects from all over the country.
The Friends of the Nevada State Railroad Museum presents a free educational program the second Wednesday of each month. Upcoming talks will cover the stranding of the Southern Pacific's train The City of San Francisco in 1952 and an update on restoration efforts. On Wednesday evenings in July and August, the museum shows moves outside in the park.
The Nevada State Railroad Museum also hosts special celebrations such as the V & T Railroad History Symposium held each October at the Carson Nugget.
