At an appreciation night Friday at B'Sghetti's Restaurant, the board of directors of what was Cancer Advocates for Cancer Victims unveiled a new name for the all-volunteer Carson City-based agency.

"It's Carson Advocates for Cancer Care now," Joe DiLonardo, president of the 8-year-old community service group, told volunteers, supporters and friends.

"The change in name has been made to better describe what we do. Besides, patients don't want to think of themselves as victims. We surely don't want them to feel that way.

"That's why we changed our name. We work to pay for cancer care - prescription drugs, treatments and pain relief, in the four-county area: Carson, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties."

The group also introduced new lapel pins which will be used to acknowledge gifts of $5 or more, according to even co-chairman David Piel. Pins will be available at ABS Print & Copy Service, Milo's Fine Wine, the Nevada Appeal, Scolari's pharmacy counter in Gardnerville and MediCap Pharmacy in Carson City.
