Northern Nevada district competition for the 28th annual Elks Hoop Shoot will be held in Carson City on Saturday, Jan. 29.
The Hoop Shoot, a nationwide free throw shooting contest for girls and boys ages 8 through 13, will be held at Carson High School. Registration will be taken at 9 a.m. that morning, with competition scheduled to begin at 10.
Contestants in three age categories (8-9, 10-11 and 12-13) are given 25 free throw attempts and the top scores in each division qualify for advancement to compete at the next level in a series that leads up to the Elks national finals.
The program originated in 1946 as a local Elks activity in Corvallis, Ore.
