Again the parents of the Carson High Class of 2000, the business and professional community, service organizations and other caring individuals came together to support the annual Safe Grad party and trip.
This year Safe Grad provided a safe, sober and chaperoned celebration for 253 graduates, about two-thirds of the class. The event, held at the Carson City Community Center, began at 8 p.m. with a DJ, a Velcro wall, a bungee trampoline, Sumo wrestling, arcade games, ping pong, swimming, lots of food, terrific prizes and more. After having a great time at the party, the graduates boarded buses at about 4 a.m. for the trip to Great America. The trip was chaperoned by Diane Grayson of the Sheriff's Department and her crew of volunteers.
In addition to the many cash and in-kind donations we received, we would like to thank the more than 100 volunteers who gave over 1,000 hours of their time. These individuals planned, organized, decorated, baked, shopped, recruited, reminded, faxed, phoned and chaperoned. They also wrote and copied letters, stuffed and addressed envelopes, blew up balloons, checked bags, told fortunes, hoisted Sumo wrestlers, made coffee, spent hours on a bus and finally swept up, packed up and cleaned up.
We extend the many thank yous we received from the young people at the party to those of you who helped. Your generosity and firm commitment to the safety and welfare of our graduates has made it possible to continue the 13-year-old Safe Grad tradition.
So again we thank everyone who made this celebration possible.
