Already successful at the national level, Carson Aquatic Club swimmer Lauren Costella experienced success at the international level over the weekend at the First Annual Junior International Swim Meet in Portland, Ore. Swimmers from France and Canada competed in the meet alongside some of the United States' best swimmers.
Costella won the 800-meter freestyle by a four-second margin over Canada's Deanna Stefanysha with a personal-best time of 8:51.22. She also placed second in the 400 individual medley with a personal record of 4:59.51 and third in the 400-meter freestyle with another personal best of 4:23.62.
Tigershark Evan Fischer also had a successful meet, placing third in the 1,500-meter freestyle and the 400-meter individual medley. He was near his personal record in both events.
"I'm extremely pleased how our two entrants swam as we're currently in some very heavy training right now," said Tigershark coach Jack Simon. "In fact, they've trained more than 300,000 meters over the past three weeks. The intention was to go and race as well as possible, and they both did a great job."
