An unbuckled seat belt sparked a high-speed chase of a car eastbound on U.S. Highway 50. The car was stopped with a spike strip just west of Echo Summit, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Carl Price, a 21-year-old from Placerville, was first contacted by El Dorado County Sheriff's Deputy Dan Bears in the parking lot of Somerset Store for not wearing his seat belt. Price fled the scene in his car.

California Highway Patrol picked up the pursuit on Highway 50 at Whitehall. A spike strip placed near Echo Lakes Road deflated all four of Price's tires and stopped the vehicle.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office booked Price for felony evading, obstructing justice, presenting false identification to police and driving with a suspended license.
