Community Concert association seeks sponsors

The Capital Community Concert Association is seeking sponsors for this season's five concerts series.

Mark Dubois and Gloria Saarinen will perform today at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Center, 851 E. William St., Carson City. Dubois, a tenor, has performed throughout the nation, Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Saarinen has been described as "warm, lyrical, and imaginative," by the London Times. The Toronto Star says, "a triumph of quicksilver moods and an unquenchable spirit resulting in a magnificent performance."

On Wednesday, Oct. 20, Boston Brass will perform at 7:30 p.m.

Winner of the 1992 International Brass Quintet Competition in Narbonne, France, Boston Brass plays arrangements of music from Baroque and Opera to Pop and Jazz. 'When playing solo, Brass players act as the musical acrobats of the symphony orchestra. Virtuosos in their own right, they nonetheless proved themselves to be excellent ensemble players."

Joe Trio, a piano, violin and cello trio, will perform Thursday, Jan. 13, 7:30 p.m. Joe Trio does not wish to be neatly categorized but rather strive for diversity, versatility, and more than a little unpredictability. As the Vancouver Sun says, "A new breed of classically trained musicians: talented, intensely musical, and unhindered by old fashioned ideas about what constitutes acceptable repertoire."

The Festival of Four, a group of three guitarists and one flutist, will perform at , 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 2. Founded in 1992, the group explores a repertoire of European, Spanish Flamenco, Asian, and American music. Theirs is a blend of classical, ethnic, solo and ensemble presentations. The Metro Detroit Heritage, "At first blush, a concert of folk and classical music performed by three guitars and a flute sounds more like a coffee house offering from the 1960's. On the other hand, when the folk music is Spanish and the flute playing is world class, the result is pure magic."

Roslyn Kind has a famous sister. That has been said. Listen to her sing and you won't care who the sister is and will know that Roslyn Kind is her own singer. She will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 1. It may be in the genes, but Kind has her own voice and style. The New York Times says..."she is quite wonderful. Catch her act, she's more than just Barbara's sister." The San Francisco Chronicle writes, "Kind is a showstopper. From her simple entrance, to her sleek look, to her humorous personality, Kind definitely has the stuff stars are made of."

Prices are $40 per member, $90 per family, $20 per student.
