Three local teams fared well at last weekend's seventh-annual Comstock Soccer Shootout in Carson City, with the boys' tournament set to start next Saturday.
Carson Valley Azzuri won the Under-19 division against Medford, Ore., on Sunday in overtime. The team, which features several Carson and Douglas high school players, pulled out the 1-0 victory.
Carson Valley INXS lost in the Under-16 Red Division (top flight) championship to the Sparks Taz. Both of those local teams beat teams from Boise, Idaho; Davis, Calif; Concord, Calif.; and Medford to reach the finale.
The Taz has one player from Douglas High, freshman Terran Hadlock. She scored one of the goals in her team's 6-0 victory over INXS, which has freshmen and sophomores from both Douglas and Carson's high school teams.
The Bay Area teams dominated most of the lower age divisions. Other results will be available in Sunday's edition when they are turned in.
The boys' tourney will resume next weekend, with the tourney taking the weekend off due to Easter. There will be 78 teams from four Western states competing in the event, which will feature games at either Edmonds Sports Complex, Mills Park or Carson Middle School.
That means this tourney will have the participation of 162 total teams, the largest ever for an event that has grown from 32 teams seven years ago. Of the 162 teams this year, 90 are from out of state.
