INCLINE VILLAGE - Saturday night turned out to be payback time for the Incline High School boys basketball team - and the unfortunate recipients were the Dayton Dust Devils.
After losing an overtime thriller in Lovelock one week before, Incline returned the favor Saturday when Jason Lanz sank a go-ahead free throw late and then blocked Dayton's shot to win as time expired, preserving a 67-66 Class 3A Division II victory against Dayton.
Dayton (10-9, 1-4 Division II) trailed 57-53 going into the fourth quarter, but the score was tied at 66 in the final minute before Lanz converted his go-ahead free throw.
Lanz finished with 24 points and Brando Strohmaier added 17 to lead the Highlanders (2-3, 7-13). Strohmaier scored 28 on Jan. 14 in Incline's 76-73 loss against Pershing County in Lovelock - a game in which they rallied from nine points behind and forced an overtime period on a buzzer-beating 3-point basket.
Josh Goss scored a game-high 29 points for Dayton. Anthony Martinez added 11 for the Dust Devils, who are now 1-4 in division play (10-9 overall).
The schedule doesn't get any easier, because Dayton hosts undefeated Division II leader Bishop Manogue on Wednesday night.
